The Smart Approach to Luxury Vinyl Plank Installation in Boulder Without Costly Leveling

It has been interesting to note how many jobs I have gotten because the previous installation team was not allowed (corporate job) to install the laminate or vinyl plank flooring. What I mean by a crown in the subfloor is: a high spot that usually goes across the floor from one end to the other. Specifically, a wooden subfloor. Cement flooring is a different story. Who knows how the crown formed, but it is usually a four-season climate or bentonite in the soil that creates such a situation.

I am here to say that you have a greater than 80 percent chance of laying your floating floor install without leveling. Yes, without getting quotes from leveling contractors. Would you care to guess how much leveling could cost? For many homeowners looking for LVP flooring installation Boulder, this is a big advantage.

So, most of us flooring guys pick a wall and start laying our flooring, going from our starting wall to the other side of the room or house. But with a crown somewhere in the middle of your subfloor, this strategy will not work. Not usually. So, what I do is start where the peak of the crown is and let that be where my seam will lie. Of course, I use the elongated side of the plank. Not the butt joint. From there, I lay the remaining planks to each side of the starting row until I meet the end wall.

Now, you may say, “Does it look good or can you tell if you have a high spot?” Most of the time, it looks like a normal floor. You cannot see anything unless, you are looking for perfection. Then this methodology is not for you. The customer will need to have the floor leveled or no floating floor for them at this time. You want to determine your customer’s sensitivities ahead of time, and you can always fall back on asking them what they think after a few rows are laid.

This methodology works for most people most of the time. That is why I am writing about it. Why pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for leveling when it is not needed? Corporate installers are asked to walk away from jobs that do not have level subfloors because of liability. But I have been able to navigate potential liability through this methodology. And, yes, I have had no callbacks after the floor has been laid. And as long as it looks good and has no “slap” in the floor when you walk on it, everybody’s happy.

Is creativity the bust that corporations will not entertain? Is there a difference between a corporate installer and an installer who is free to make a floor work because he is allowed to think outside the box? Whatever you choose, I am sure it will be right for you! Witte Home Improvement could be your perfect partner for luxury vinyl plank installation in Boulder.
